How to Go About Getting the Best Scar Removal Surgeon for Your Needs

Scar Removal Options - Which Option is Right for You?

There are many different ways to remove scars. My twelve year old was going to be starting school soon and was unhappy and embarrassed about a scar she had on her face and a very large scar on her upper arm & shoulder. She was about to start going to a new school that year. My first thought was it would be no big deal, you'll meet lots of people who have scars, I have a few scars myself. I assured her, "You're lovely and if someone doesn't like you because of a little scar on the side of your face, then that person is not your friend." I got the typical response, half a smile, rolled eyes and, "You're my mom, you're supposed to think I'm beautiful."  Then I thought, well, the first thing people see is your face.

My daughter had a nasty scar going down her face, from in front of her ear, to just under her chin area. Her other scar was a large burn mark. She got these from an auto accident we had when she was ten. A scar verses her almost dying, we could live with scars. But these days she has turned into a self-conscious teen and kids in her age group can be kind of mean and petty. So I knew it was time to begin looking at the other ways to remove scars, doctors, reputations, and pricing.  BTW, this is one great option for scar removal surgery in Rockford.

I starting doing some research by searching online and reading magazine articles.  There are gels and creams for reducing the appearance of scars, dermabrasion, laser treatment, silicone sheets, and surgery . I went over our choices with my daughter. She let me know what her expectations were. By the week's end I found a physician who was certified and licensed and who is a specialist at scar removals. And fortunately he had a good reputation and was in the right price range.

We went in for the consultation. We met with the doctor and a psychologist. During the exam, he evaluated her face and arm. He said for the arm injury , plastic surgery was required, and for her facial scar, steroid injections then laser removal . The results were just what we anticipated. Now I have happier 12 year old. Weeks later when her six year old brother arrived home from visiting his grandma and grandpa for the summer, when he first saw her he said to her, "You're really pretty." She is much more social now and she is excited about being able to wear tank tops again. Doing research on scar removal and reading articles on this site was a big help in making our decision about the surgery.
